Red Kite Cottages are accredited “Walking Friendly” by Visit Wales for providing special facilities for walking enthusiasts. Variety and diversity of walks in the area, from the Cambrian Mountains, with red kites and buzzards flying above, through the lush green river valleys of the Teifi, Aeron, Ystwyth and Rheidol to spectacular coastal walks along the Ceredigion Coastal Path, with sightings of dolphins, seals, porpoise and a huge variety of marine birds, would stimulate even most demanding walkers.
The nearest walk, Ystwyth Trail, is only two miles from Ffair Rhos and connects Aberystwyth, on the shore of Ceredigion's Bay, with Tregaron in the northern Teifi Valley. Substantial sections of the Ystwyth Trail follow the track of the old Great Western Railway line (formerly the Manchester & Milford Railway). The Ystwyth Trail bridges a number of strategic provisions for walking within Ceredigion, connecting Tregaron and the upper Teifi Valley with the Ceredigion Coast Path and providing a northerly return route for individuals following the linear footpath that extends between Borth and Tregaron via Devil's Bridge, Cwm Ystwyth, Pontrhydygroes and Pontrhydfendigaid.
