Hen Ysgubor provides a comfortable 4 star Visit Wales rated self-catering family accommodation in Mid Wales. Our beautiful holiday cottage located in the Cambrian Mountains in a small and tranquil hamlet provides an ideal base for walking, cycling, fishing, bird-watching, horse riding, surfing, golfing or simply relaxing in the beautiful and inspiring countryside.

Red Kite Cottages (Fythynnod y Barcud Coch) is conveniently positioned in the heart of Wales; therefore access to the rest of the country could not be easier. Located in spectacular countryside with fabulous views, and within the Cambrian Mountain Plateau (generally between 1500ft and 2000ft), with the Brecon Beacons National Park to the South and The Snowdonia Nation Park to the north.

The Teifi Inn is within walking distance from Hen Ysgubor, as well as a choice of pubs in surrounding villages, serving good food and drink.

The main property Ty Uchaf (Upper House) was originally a mining manager's cottage, built in the 18th century and is closely connected to local history. It also served as a Public House for the miners and drovers at one time and is featured on the Miners Tourist Information Board outside the Teifi Inn. John Wesley (1703-1791) the preacher who founded the Methodist Movement, with his brother Charles Wesley (1707-1788), was said to have stayed at Ty Uchaf in 1764. An old miners track is now a delightful walk suitable for the whole family, leading from the cottage to the old mine.

Only a few miles to the south is the historic Strata Florida Abbey; to the north you can visit Devil's Bridge with cascading waterfalls, a narrow gauge steam railway and the world famous three bridges built one on top of the other; a short drive away from beautiful sandy beaches of Cardigan Bay and its famous bottlenose dolphins and the Marine Wildlife Centre; Aberystwyth and Borth are just nearby with perfect surfing conditions, a river estuary and beach side golf course; only 25 miles from the Snowdonia National Park; within easy access to the National Gardens of Wales, Dan-yr- Ogof Caves, kite feeding centres, fish farms, riding schools and mining museums to name just a few attractions available for fantastic days out. The secluded location of Ffair Rhos is ideal for tourists to have either a relaxed holiday in an upland area or to use it as a base to tour. A fantastic area for outdoor and adventurous pursuits, including adrenalin sports, both inland and on the coast.

Stargazing and astronomy - Very little light pollution makes Ffair Rhos one of the best places to view the night sky in mainland Britain.
